Felix Wöhler, Director

Usually the first person students encounter both online and in person is our friendly director - Felix. A translator by profession, Felix is fluent in English, German, and Spanish and has a university degree in International Communication.

Felix founded his first language centre (Sprachenzentrum Wöhler) in Germany and, in 2009, acquired Bronte Language Centre. Building on the strenghts of BLC (student-centred, fun, friendly, etc.), Felix modernized and transformed BLC into English Encounters. "I wanted to keep the intimate approach of the Bronte school", says Felix, "but provide higher quality, accredited ESL training in a more modern and student-friendly location". To that end, in 2010 Felix moved the school to a new, custom-designed facility in downtown Burlington (near malls, pubs, lake, beach, train, etc.), and improved the ESL program, now fully accredited by Languages Canada.

Randy Wesselson, ESL Teacher

Randy has been with our school since 1998 - almost since it was founded as the Bronte Language Centre (1996). As well as teaching, Randy often takes students on class trips and special events.

Randy has always been internationally focused and his background includes a Master's degree in International Relations and a history of world travel (he has visited over 40 countries). "Teaching English keeps me in touch with the world", explains Randy, "so my students mean the world to me!" He has taught courses at college and immigration centres besides his years at English Encounters and Bronte Language Centre.

Louise Foster, ESL Teacher

Teaching English to international students is a passion for Louise Foster, an ESL Instructor at English Encounters for nearly 5 years. "It's all about the students and making them feel comfortable using English", explains Louise, "and at the same time learning about each others' culture and personality". Louise is loved by students for her warm personality, clear explanations, patience, and flexibility. A mother of three grown children, Louise brings both sensitivity and a wide range of experience to the classroom.

Louise speaks some French and ASL (American Sign Language) and worked with deaf students for many years. Her academic background includes a degree in psychology and linguistics plus a TESL Diploma with TESL Ontario Certification. Her hobbies include walking her dogs, scrapbooking, enjoying nature at her cottage, and keeping in touch with students on Facebook.

Sara Tariq, ESL Teacher

Sara has an economics degree and TESL certificate and has a background in investments as well as teaching. Sara has taught ESL for several years including overseas in Korea. She is fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi. Sara has quickly built a reputation among students for her interesting classes.

Hena Baig, ESL Teacher

Hena comes to us from the Royal Bank of Canada where she worked in IT, client care, and management. Hena has a Political Science degree in addition to her TESL Diploma. Fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, Hena is a humorous person and says she loves teaching because it “feels good to help people learn something new”.
